This book is a commentary on Muqaddimat at-Tafsīr for Shaykh al-Islām Ibn Taymiyyah (d. 728 AH). In it, he explained introductions on the Tafsīr of Qur’an and that the Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) clarified to the Companions the meanings of the Qur’an that were unknown to them. The book also tackles the types of Tafsīr. There is Tafsīr based on texts and another on deduction, and there is Tafsīr that relies on the statements of the Tābi‘is (the generation after the Companions) and Tafsīr that relies on personal reasoning. In conclusion, the Shaykh summarized the rules mentioned in the original book. His commentary was delivered during the audio-recorded academic lessons that he gave at his mosque in ‘Unayzah, 1408 AH.
